How a website redesign can affect Google search results

In a recent content redesign of one of our client’s websites, we noticed a very peculiar and disconcerting effect:

When you searched for “resa’s pieces&quot,; the website for www.resaspieces.org does not show up. Google dropped the website completely after the website was relaunched!

The website was redesigned under the same domain name on September 2, 2013. As of September 16, 2013 here is what a sample search result looked like. The link in the red box is the only remaining link to the website, and it didn’t work! The other links refer to my client but is not my client’s website.

Rp missing from google after relaunch

So what happened? And how can this be fixed?
